My Bio

During more than 35 years in corporate communications and PR, specializing in crisis and reputation management, I’ve worked with organizations ranging from small, local businesses to Fortune 500 companies, non-profit foundations and interestingly, even foreign governments. My most recent positions include president of GCI Group, San Francisco and managing director of its America’s corporate practice, as well as general manager of Hill and Knowlton for San Francisco/Northern California and deputy director of its global technology practice.

Former clients include well-known brands such as Banker’s Trust, Blue Shield of California, Compaq, Dell, E*TRADE, Gateway, Hughes Aircraft, Sony Playstation, Starbucks, Union Pacific, Yahoo! and Walden House – to name just a few. I’ve also led crisis containment efforts for a variety of special situations, including airline crashes, environmental emergencies, bankruptcies and restructurings, class action suits, mergers and acquisitions, labor disputes, consumer recalls, product tampering and more.

Semi-retiring in 2003, I now consult with a small roster of clients and also provide pro bono communications counsel and speaker support for the United States Air Force Public Affairs offices. I served four years on the Board of Directors of the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation through 2010.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in public relations from Boston University, School of Public Communication.  Over the years, I’ve been an instructor for H&K College, teaching a variety of courses in communications and PR.
